The Flying Cruise Ship: Aeroscraft ML866
The Aeroscraft ML866 is a heavier than air hybrid airship that is currently being worked on by the Worldwide Aeros Corporation. Two thirds of ML866's lift is provided by the helium while the remaining portion is supplemented by the forward thrust from its engine. There are six turbojets facing downward that allows for vertical departure or landing. The Aeroscraft not only fits the role of a flying luxury cruiser but also the roles of a private yacht, a business transport, a freighter, or an airborne tourist ship.
The ML866 design is also planned to be used as a military transport for its 60 tons payload capacity and the ability to land in rough terrain without airstrips. Unfortunately, the top speed of the Aeroscraft is only around 120 knots which equates to 138 miles per hour. The slow speed along with its massive surface area renders dire vulnerability to the transport.
Another commonly discussed use of the Aeroscraft was to function as a hotel. This, however, does not seem practical as passengers cannot choose when to leave or enter the flying dirigible as they please. The airship is more of a proper fit as a yacht or cruiser.
The ML866 design can be outfitted with a casino, dining room, bar, sports rom, hot tub, or library. For the more business related setup, there can be a conference room, work stations, and offices.
The estimated price tag of this modernized blimp currently stands at 40 million. Such a rare but incredible experience will result in high ticket prices for this craft as demand will most likely be up.
