Street Art (Julian Beever Part 5)

As usual, Julian Beever has great interactions with spectators in addition to strategically inserting himself into his creative productions.

Note that he creates the illusion of a miniature person on the beer by using distance.

Camouflage Posters (Fred Lebain)

Fred Lebain visited New York during the spring of 09 where he captured several highly detailed images. He later printed these scenic photos onto large posters and superimposed them at the location of the original photograph. The end result is a stealthy camouflage with a hint of surrealism.

This is quite a play on time and location brings out a certain uniqueness and spirit of New York.

The high quality captures of New York hides the person behind it fairly well but at the same time it does not do it perfectly which is crucial. It would not nearly be as interesting if viewers could not tell that the posters were actually not part of the background.

Shadow Art (Kumi Yamashita)

These formulated depiction of shadows were produced by Japanese artist Kumi Yamashita. Her earliest silhouette piece was done in 1994 and titled 'Profile'. Kumi Yamashita's work has not only won multiple awards throughout the years but has also been featured in numerous art galleries and museums. The video below displays one of her more unique productions. It was unveiled in 1999 and titled 'Conversations'.


Kumi Yamashita noted that the animation in 'Conversations' is trying to say "my name is Sylvia".

Surreal & Abstract Ingenuity (David Fuhrer)

David Fuhrer is an up and coming artistic talent who was born 1985, in Bern, Switzerland. In his childhood, he was inspired by Disney movies and the careers of astronauts. As he grew up, he cites gaming and countless artists as huge influences on his works. His earlier works were more abstract but he mentions that his productions have become more focused over time.

In his interview (here), David Fuhrer stated that a single illustration could take months to complete.

David Fuhrer never went to any schools as he wears a shirt stating "my school is life". He is an incredible self taught artist and flash developer with immense creativity. Illustrations such as the Big Tree or Metal Heart showcases his imagination.

Surrealistic Brilliance (Jacek Yerka)

Jacek Yerka was born in Toruń, Poland, in 1952. He grew up with an artistic family and wanted to differentiate his own art style from his parents' artistic techniques. Jacek Yerka mentioned that he faced pressure from professors to change his techniques to suit the more contemporary styles that were more popular at the time. He persevered with his own artistic style that was greatly influenced by Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel, Hugo van der Goes and Jan van Eyck. Jacek Yerka became a full fledged artist in 1980 and from then on has won multiple international awards.


Jacek Yerka's classical Flemish painting technique is full of incredible details that accentuates the surrealistic themes of his work. The artistic pieces appear as though they came straight out of a wildly bizarre dream.
